Where we're at!

Well, first some background information. We're adopting. We'd like to bring two children into our family so we're sending dossiers in to both China and Korea. We're working with a great agency called Childrens Home Society and Family Services which is located in Silver Spring Maryland. We've currently accomplished a few steps in the process. We've finished our initial application which basically let them know our name and address. We were then sent the full application materials. For the past three and a half months we've been diligently collecting more information that I thought anyone could possibly want including FBI criminal background clearances, DC police clearance, driving records, health records, proof of employment, income tax records, personal references, home safety survey's, and a lengthy introspective self studies (in addition to about 20 forms that we just needed to sign). During this phase we also needed to read a book about adoption and do a number of homework assignments.

We finally turned in the entire package, less Glenn's proof of employment which was lost in the shuffle of HR folks at his work, on Monday afternoon, just in time to get into the full day class on cross-cultural and cross-racial parenting, child attachment, and some of the specifics of the adoption process. Now comes the home study. Before we can start our home study we have to complete a checklist indicating what kind of special needs and background conditions we feel we could parent and a plan for cross cultural and cross racial parenting. So that's where we're at!

Our first post

Well, today is a big day for me. Earlier today I signed up for a facebook page for the first time (you can be my friend if you want!) and we're finally starting a blog, sometime we've considered doing for a long time. The thing is, that normally our live just aren't that interesting (I mean, who wants to read a blog about the global business strategy paper I'm writing?) But, since we're now frequently getting questions about the adoption process, both how it's going and what it is like, we've decided to start a blog on our experiences. So, welcome, have a seat, and enjoy reading!
